Who We Are

Our only agenda is to prevent firearm-related injuries and deaths.

Who is Pause to Protect?

We are community members with a common goal of improving firearm safety. Pause to Protect is a voluntary program that empowers firearm businesses and owners to take easy steps to help prevent accidents, theft, suicide, and other violence involving personally-owned firearms. Pause to Protect is creating networks of partners – firearm businesses – across the United States, and it’s supporting those networks with an online hub of materials and with technical assistance.

Who is Leading Pause to Protect?

The program was created by a multi-disciplinary team of experts based at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The team has expertise and experience working with the firearms community and the military in violence prevention.

Who is Funding Pause to Protect?

Funding for the program launch (winter 2023–24) is from the Defense Suicide Prevention Office and Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium. The first partner networks will be around military installations to support service members and their families.
